JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS, JUSTICE FOR ALL
National Crime Victims Rights Week, April 13-19, 2008

There will be no justice for any or us if we don't seek greater fairness for victims
of crime.  It is time for our community to stand behind those victimized by crime.

Crime can strike anyone, anywhere.  An estimated 23 million Americans become
victims of crime every year.  These victims deserve to be heard, to be respected,
and deserve justice.

What Hurdles A Crime Victim Faces:
  • Being treated disrespectfully by prosecutors, judges, and defense attorneys,
  • Not being notified of court dates,
  • Not being aware of victim compensation programs, and
  • The process of rebuilding their lives.

What A Crime Victim Needs:
  • Help in understanding their rights,
  • Help in negotiating the criminal justice system,
  • Access to crime victim services and advocacy,
  • To be believed and supported, and
  • To be made whole.

What A Crime Victim Wants:
  • To be made to feel safe again in their community,
  • For the offender to be held accountable,
  • To take part in the criminal justice process,
  • For their community to stand behind them,
  • To rebuild their lives, to be made whole.
