National Crime Victims' Rights Week April 18th - April 24th 2010 Crime Victims' Rights: FAIRNESS. DIGNITY. RESPECT.
As advocates for the Northwest Buffalo Community Center, Crime Victims Assistance & Advocacy Program we support, honor, respect and listen to victim's of crime not just during victim's rights week but everyday.
All victims of crime deserve to be treated fairly and respectfully and in a way that preserves their dignity. Our nation's victims' rights laws and the network of support services now available to victims, embody these ideals.
National Crime Victims Rights Week will recall ideals that inspired the decade-long struggle of the victims' rights movement and challenges all Americans to honor victims' rights.
"Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope" - Robert F. Kennedy
As of 2010 every state has passed victims' rights laws and 32 states have constitutional victims' rights amendments. All states have victim compensation funds and more than 10,000 victim assistance programs exist throughout the country.
Such changes have made victims participants, rather than bystanders in the criminal justice system.
