Programs Update (Spring 2010)

At our 21st Century Community Learning Center sites, we are continuing the hard work that has been an essential aspect of our after-school programming.

Following the close-out of our initial five (5) year federal grant at the end of the 2008 school year, NWBCC was once again funded for an additional five (5) years.  We are thrilled to
once again be working with our partner schools; Private First Class William J. Grabiarz School of Excellence (#79), Riverside Institute of Technology, Roosevelt Early Childhood
Center (#65), and West Hertel Academy (#94) and we have additional sites at Frank A. Sedita (#30) Futures Academy (#37), Community School (#53) and Academy School at 44 in
(#131).  Our relationship with the administrators, teachers, and associate staff at these excellent schools has truly helped the programs flourish, as we focus on supporting the work
those individuals do during the regular school day, by offering intense ELA and math programming, homework assistance, and help with various projects after school.

Obviously, our hard work and success has been recognized by New York Department of Education officials, who control how the federal funding is distributed throughout New York
State.  The fact that they have selected us as a model on how to operate after-school programming is a testament to the dedication, determination, and professionalism of all staff
associated with our 21st Century Community Learning Centers.  Our programs have attained consistent, successful outcomes, by reaching out to students with excellent academic
programs, and fun, interesting, and educational recreation activities.  Targeting not only the academic aspect of after-school, but also focusing on career building, personal and social
development skills, and other essential, non-academic activities, NWBCC’s 21st Century Community Learning Center programs have been able to further sharpen the tools that our
children need to find success not only in school, but throughout all areas of their lives.

About Our After-school Programs...

The first session of the program provides students opportunities for homework assistance, tutoring, and instruction in
Math, English Language Arts, Writing, and Reading.  Following a break where students are given a nutritious snack, the
students continue their participation in a wide variety of exciting, often challenging recreational activities.
